Kindle version is missing diagrams and examples. It will reference to them but nothing is there. I would like a refund, I would get the paper back, stay away from the kindle version. Americans have been writing good DIY books for over 130 years. I have a collection.Trouble is they tend to address the how and spend little time on the why. This book is different. It's broadly split into two sections, one discussing batteries and what works best. Call this the "why". The writing is simple and there is NO jargon. That said, the knowledge is very detailed and is essential to building an effective, safe battety.The second section is the typical "how". I found it a bit simplistic for a typical hobbyist but anyone can build a Lipo using these instructions.What the book summary says is what you get. You also get useful information on the feeding, exercise and care of your pet Lipo battery

The hard to get on the Internet Information gleaned from this will be very helpful in building my home power wall and the new battery pack for my Prius all-EV revamp I'm working on. Thanks for the great guide! It confirms many things I knew and many things I suspected about the batteries and choice of batteries and ties it all together for me in a way I totally get. Complete with the formulas needed to decipher what's what. Awesome!! The only better thing would have been if it was released as an eBook in the Apple/iOS iBook format so it could have working databases and calculators in the book itself. That would have made a great book on Lithium Ion batteries into the greatest book on Lithium batteries ever published!

The first half of the book is a short course on Lithium batteries in general.• A paragraph or so on lithium chemistries: Lithium ion, Lithium Manganese Oxide, Lithium Cobalt Oxide, Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide, Lithium Nickel Cobalt Aluminum Oxide, Lithium polymer, Lithium Iron Phosphate• Choosing between: Pouch, Prismatic, and Cylindrical cells• Choosing between 18650 chemistries with model numbers based on trade offs between: Capacity, Power, and Safety• The basic mathematics of determining your voltage, power and capacity requirements.It's a good tutorial and reference for lithium batteries and is worthwhile for anyone contemplating buying a commercial battery pack.Check the table of contents, he delivers on what's promised. A tour de force!

I'm sure that if you love to Google-everything like I do, you'll notice almost everything available on batteries is very intimidating and complicated to understand, and in most cases you'll have to look in more than one article to complete the necessary knowledge to even think on build something involve such (relatively) dangerous as battery.I was surprised how simple-yet-professional it is.I have no knowledge in this matter and yet I can say everything is clear and simple,Great.
Wish I had this book to read years ago when I was trying to understand the lithium batteries in my ebike. I also carried this knowledge on to a solar system using lithium batteries. Micah explains the hard to grasp electrical and chemical nature of lithium batteries. And most important you can tell that Micah has the hands on expertise to back up what he is talking about so it is real world advice.I have been reading up on lithium batteries for years and this book is filling in a lot of the gaps of knowledge that I missed.Every book on a complex subject should be this easy to read and understand.
Excellent book because I have basic mechanical knowledge this book is written in lamens terms, with I like. This will give any half wit person the knowledge they need to understand the battery building fundamentals. This book is written as a friend explaining the basics of lithium batteries. It teaches you the calculations needed to design battery packs a voltage ranges. The reason people are not liking this book is because battery building is not a exact constant voltage and I’m sure this confuses newbie battery DIY’ers But the book does explain this and give knowledge that there are ranges and these are not designed for every application. The book is a great stepping stone of knowledge and by no means meant to be a replacement for a electrical engineer. Use knowledge with a degree of understanding and consult an electrician if you feel uncertain with your design or if your application use area could cause harm in the event of a failure. This is also sated in the book this is a stepping stone basic knowledge book. This book gave me the knowledge I was looking for after attempting to search you tube with no luck find detailed knowledge. This book connected the dots on my understanding. I would definitely recommend this book for beginners to get the staring knowledge and concepts here to see if you wanna take the next step.
