As a reader, I've always enjoyed the Exam Ref series because the books are easy to read, not too long, and focused on the task at hand - preparing for the exam! We started writing this book before the 70-398 exam (or beta exam) was available, which isn't uncommon. Somewhere around half way through writing the book, the beta exam was released and I got in on the beta. The tough thing about beta exams is that there usually isn't any study material. But I was lucky because I had the first few chapters of the book! And so I read through those before the exam. I just got the results back and I passed! And, while I might be a little biased, the book was a big help.
This book was fun to write. And we all put a lot of effort in to concentrate on the topics and information that is most relevant for the exam. This exam covers quite a bit of ground across a lot of different (and new) technologies. I was glad to have Bob Clements and Charles Pluta on the team because it allowed everybody to focus on quality instead of a single author rushing through to meet deadlines (and possibly degrade quality).
Besides this book, it is a good idea to go through all of the technologies in a non-production environment so properly prepare for the exam. The hands on experience really helps you remember information and learn complex topics.

If you've made it this far, then you've put some thought into scheduling (or already scheduled!) the 70-398 exam. As with most Microsoft exams, they focus on real-world scenarios and actionable hands-on tasks with the products and features that the exam covers.
